Monday, 8/13/07

I met Steve at 5:30 PM in Greatwood for a couple of times around the loop in 102 degree heat. Steve wasn't feeling up to a 100% effort, and with the heat I thought it would be best to accomadate him. The alternative was death by heat-stroke so it was a pretty easy decision to take it easy. Or.....relatively easy.

We did the first loop in 26:53 (7:34 pace) and were feeling okay. Yeah, it was hot but the humidity was low, otherwise it couldn't have gotten so hot. That's what a lot of people don't understand. You hear people say it's 98 degrees with 100% humidity but that's pretty much impossible. It may be 100% humidity in the early morning but it's not 98 degrees then and the humidity falls throughout the day as the temperature goes up. Halfway through the second loop (30 minutes of running) I noticed that my shorts were only partially wet from sweat - they'd normally be drenched. Low humidity.

We did fine on the second loop as well, and picked up the pace, though not intentionally - it just seems to always work that way. We posted a 26:05 (7:21 pace). And no stops between loops. 7.1 miles straight through.

We cooled down a bit on the curb, then I went home, loaded the boys in the jogging stroller and headed out for 3.5 easy miles behind the wife as she did her run.

Total distance Monday (8/13) - 7.1 + 3.5 = 10.6 miles, 52:58 (7:28 pace) on the 7.1.
