Making Progress

Tonight I ran my 4.4 mile route through my neighborhood. This is the shortest route of those that I run regularly so it's a good one to gauge my race speed. Two weeks ago yesterday I ran this route in 31:06 (7:04), though I had a planned walk of about 1 minute in there. Two days later I ran this route in 29:33 (6:43 pace). With two weeks of somewhat decent training, I figured I could improve upon that time tonight.

I was faced with a pretty strong wind in my face going out but knew that I couldn't let that compromise my pace too much or I'd have a mountain to climb coming back. I typically turn a negative split on this route but didn't want to face the prospect of having to try to shave a minute off the second half. I hit the turnaround in a respectable 14:19 (6:30 pace) but felt the wind to my back as soon as I turned around. Nice. I did the return in 13:53 (6:19 pace), including a final mile of 6:17.

Total distance - 4.4 miles, time - 28:12 (6:25 pace).

Total milage for the week (so far) - 25.2.

No, I Haven't Quit Again

I'm still training, but busy as hell and haven't had a chance to post about my training runs. I'm going to give just the nuts and bolts of the runs I've done since the first run in my recovery, which was the last run that I posted about. That run took place on Friday, March 31. Here's what I've been up to since:

Sunday, April 2: 4.4 miles, 29:33 (6:43 pace)

Monday, April 3: 5.97 miles, 46:17 (7:45 pace)

Tuesday, April 4: 7.1 miles (2 Greatwood loops - 27:17, 25:42), 52:59 (7:28 pace)

Saturday, April 8: 3.0 miles, didn't time it

Monday, April 10: 7.1 miles (2 Greatwood loops - 26:37, 24:53), 51:30 (7:15 pace)

Tuesday, April 11: 7.1 miles (2 Greatwood loops - 26:27, 26:13), 52:41 (7:25 pace)

Wednesday, April 12: 3.4 miles, didn't time it

Thursday, April 13: speedwork. .4 miles x 5. Times for the .4 mile repeats were 2:20, 2:17, 2:19, 2:17, 2:18

I'm making progress but am not sure if I'm capable of getting into the 19s on a 5K and I won't race until I am. I'll be doing my 4.4 mile run this weekend at race pace so I'll have a better gauge then.
